چکیده

[1] An extraordinary dust event over Beijing (April 2006) was followed by a synergy of lidar, Sun photometric and satellite measurements. Extreme aerosol optical depth (AOD) values (1–4) were measured by AERONET and MODIS over Beijing. The size distribution of the particles remained close to 2.5 mm and the single scattering albedo was around 0.92 ± 0.5 (440 nm). Coarse particles contributed to more than 60–80% to the AOD values, indicating the presence of very large particles (Ångström exponent <0.3). Coarse particle contribution to total AOD is associated with the free-tropospheric aerosols calculated by lidar profiles (65%). Lidar vertical profiles with AOD values from AERONET were used to estimate a typical lidar ratio for the dust particles (84 sr) during the most intense dust period. The DREAM forecast model was applied for the accurate description of the dust event evolution. Ground-truth data were used for the validation of DREAM over the Beijing area. A long Saharan dust event over the western Mediterranean: Lidar, Sun photometer observations, and regional dust modeling

[1] A long Saharan dust event affected the western Mediterranean in the period 12– 28 June 2002. Dust was present mainly between 1and 5-km height affecting most parts of the Iberian Peninsula and reaching western/central Europe. Intensive backscatter lidar observations over Barcelona (Spain) and Sun photometer data from two stations (El Arenosillo, Spain, and Avignon, France) are used to evalua...

Asian dust event observed in Seoul, Korea, during 29-31 May 2008: analysis of transport and vertical distribution of dust particles from lidar and surface measurements.

In this study, we investigate the transport of dust particles, its vertical distribution, and the associated meteorological conditions during an Asian dust event that was observed in Seoul, Korea on May 29-31, 2008. This study analyzes data from ground-based and space-borne 2-wavelength polarization lidars, particulate mass concentrations, and synoptic weather data. Surface meteorological stati...

Analysis and Comparing Satellite Products and Simulated of AOD in West Iran (2000-2018)

Dust is influenced by the interaction of the atmosphere-Earth system and, by changing radiation energy, atmospheric chemistry and physics, affects the climate of an area. Due to the necessity of the role of dust and its spatial-dynamic distribution in the atmosphere of a region, as well as the existence of advanced remote sensing techniques and modeling in the field of dust simulation, the pres...

Measurements of Saharan dust aerosols over the Eastern Mediterranean using elastic backscatter-Raman lidar, spectrophotometric and satellite observations in the frame of the EARLINET project

We report on the vertical distributions of Saharan dust aerosols over the N.E. Mediterranean region, which were obtained during a typical dust outbreak on August 2000, by two lidar systems located in Athens and Thessaloniki, Greece, in the frame of the European EARLINET project. MODIS and ground sun spectrophotometric data, as well as air-mass backward trajectories confirmed the existence of Sa...
